Canon EOS-1D X Mark II

Canon has announced the new flagship Canon EOS-1D X Mark II:

  • New 20.2MP CMOS sensor
  • Dual DIGIC 6+ processors
  • 4k video at 60p, 1080p with up to 120 fps
  • Up to 14 fps (16 fps with mirror lock up)
  • ISO 100-51200, boostable to 409600
  • 61-point autofocus (41 of them cross-type)
  • Up to 170 RAWs in a burst if using CFast cards

Canon develops sensor with 250 megapixels

Canon announced an APS-H-size (approx. 29.2 x 20.2 mm) CMOS sensor featuring 250 million pixels, a new record. In a camera the new sensor was able to capture images enabling the distinguishing of lettering on the side of an airplane flying at a distance of approximately 18 km from the shooting location. Video footage captured by the camera achieved a level of resolution that was approximately 30 times that of 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) video.

The sensor first will be used in industrial equipment.

Canon XC10 – 4K video and stills

The new Canon XC10 digital camcorder is a hybrid featuring 4K video combined with the ability to shoot stills – and remember, hybrid always come with compromises:

  • 4K video with 5-axis image stabilization
  • 12 MP stills but JPG only, no RAW
  • 1″ CMOS sensor
  • 10x optical zoom, equivalent 24-241mm at an aperture F2.8 – F5.6
  • all for a MSRP $2499

Canon EOS 5Ds with 50 Megapixel

Canon had a hard time in the everlasting megapixel race, fans where asking themselves when Canon would have an answer to the 36 Megapixel challenge of the Nikon D800/D810 – now the answer is here:

The new Canon EOS 5Ds features a 50.6 Megapixel full-frame sensor. They also offer a EOS 5Ds R where the effect of the low pass filter has been cancelled out, just the same as Nikon did with the old D800/D800E.

  • 50.6 Megapixel full-frame sensor
  • ISO 100-6400 (expandable up to 12800)
  • 61 point AF system with 41 cross-type points
  • 1.6x and 1.3x crop modes
  • 1080/30p video but no microphone socket and no HDMI out
