Leica M, Leica M-E and Leica S

Leica announced three new cameras:

  • Leica M (referred to as M type 240) – the first Leica rangefinder to feature live view and movie shooting (is this still a Leica?)
  • Leica M-E – a stripped back camera concentrating on the essentials (the real Leica?)
  • Leica S – the further development of the S2 medium format cameras still offering 37 MP but offering improved image processing, ISO 100-1600, improved Autofocus system. Expect the first Leica S to be shipped in December for more than $20,000

Leica V-Lux 2 superzoom

Leica announces a new superzoom compact camera, the V-Lux 2:

  • 14MP sensor
  • 25-600mm zoom
  • 11fps shooting
  • 1080p video
  • 3″ 460k dot tiltable LCD

Leica D-Lux 5 premium compact

Leica announces the D-Lux 5 premium compact camera similar to the Panasonic LX5:

  • 10 MP sensor
  • 24-90mm lens
  • 3″ 460k dot LCD
  • 720p video

First Leica S2 rolled out

According to Leica, the first Leica S2 are delivered to customers. The first one went to Jim Rakete, a renowned photographer  in Berlin.

Leica M9

Leica has announced the M9, a full frame rangefinder camera. It features a 24x36mm 18 Megapixel sensor developed by Kodak. With this sensor every Leica M-mount lens provides the originally intended field of view. Also new: an UV/IR cover-glass filter which means no need for lens filters, one stop improvement in noise.
