Nikon roadmap 2009-2011

Instead of following some strange rumor sites that basically publish every email from whoever it may come, I carefully read what some Pros have to say – in this case the well respected Thom Hogan:

He has posted a well-thought-out Nikon roadmap based on “why trust fan-inspired wish lists when you can just analyze the past and make a solid prediction for the future?”:

    New Canon 50D

Canon announced the anticipated EOS 50D, an upgraded version of the EOS 40D. It features…

    • 15.1 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor
    • 6.3fps continuous shooting for up to 90 JPEGs with an UDMA card

    • 9-point wide area AF
    • 3.0” Clear View VGA LCD with Live View mode & Face Detection Live AF
    • Magnesium alloy body with environmental protection
    • integrated cleaning system

BTW, have you noticed how more and more gimmicks like face detection swap from consumer cameras to semi-professional models?

Update: Dpreview has it’s hands-on preview online and a sample gallery.

New announcement from Nikon on August 28

On Nikon August 28 Nikon will make an announcement of new gear, probably the awaited D90 and some new lenses. Both Thom Hogan and several Nikon dealers report this. I don’t expect the D3X as Nikon probably woudn’t have missed the oportunity to announce it at the Olympics…

Nikon D90 able to record videos?

Thom Hogan predicts that the Nikon D90 (replacement for the D80) will not only be a slight update with 12 Megapixel but will be able to record videos – a first timer. Also coming is a new DX lens: 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G DX VR.
